Colored Pencil Candy Wrappers Drawing

Objective:  Create a colored pencil drawing on 12” x 18” white paper of 3, 4 or 5 candies in their wrappers.

  1. Experiment with multiple composition sketches, pick the most successful sketch.
  1. Glue candies to card stock grid in the chosen arrangement. Be sure to glue the candies on or near the intersection of the lines. Create a triangle arrangement with warm colors.  It is ok to go off the edge of your paper with your design.
  1. Sketch contours (outlines) of the shapes on paper using a light colored or 2B pencil.
  1. Draw a gradient background using two or three analogous  (colors next to each other on the color wheel) colors in a transparent, very light-colored pencil application.
  1. Draw candies with a transparent application of "local color," or the actual colors of the candies (The previous layer of highlight and shadow would show through)
  1. Demonstrate multiple methods of shading in varying levels of colored pencil value.

Be sure to use Thiebaud examples as a reference.   Try experimenting with layers of colored pencil colors. Be as neat as you can!

As part of your exam packet you must show several sketches and preparatory drawings where you have worked out details of your project.
