"Today we say all art is political.
But I'd say all art has to do with ethics... It's a matter of attitudes."
-Ingmar Bergman

Essential Questions:
- What is activism? What is tolerance? Prejudice? Racism?
- How can the visual arts help in fighting for social justice?
- Why is it important to fight stereotypes?
NC Essential Standards:
Generate innovative solutions to artistic problems
Use experiences and observations to create content for art
Select media appropriate for communicating content
Understand the role of visual art in documenting history
Project: Create a piece of art around a social issue or cause that you feel strongly about. The viewer must be able to clearly understand your stance from the work you portray. You can demonstrate your support FOR a particular social issue, or you can demonstrate your opposition to the issue through your artwork.
Ask yourself:
What is a social issue?
How can art be used to address a social issue?
How do your actions affect the world?
Consider several issues, your first thought may not be the best one!
What is it about the issue that interests you?
Who is most affected by this?
Does it affect a particular region of the world? Religion? Gender?
Where do you stand on the issue?
What words, symbols, or images relate?
Consider your viewers:
Is it important that viewers can easily read/decode your piece?
Where will you display or install your work? Select a location here on campus or in the community. (see me for gallery availability!)
