Visual Journal Art Research
This assignment allows you to create an artistic response to your research of an artist and his or her work. This is a way to communicate your understanding of the life and work of the artist in a unique way, without spitting back information directly from the internet. Creating an art journal artist research spread allows you to be imaginative, honest, experimental, and expressive while showcasing what you have learned.
Explore the links below and look at the sketchbook examples. Note the level of research, and be sure to pay attention to the CONNECTIONS made by the sketchbook artist to the master artist.

Create a spread that reflects GENUINE research about this artist.
Be sure to research the artist well. Choose images that truly represent the artist’s trademark style. Make sure to dig a little bit and don't always use the initial pictures that pop up on Google.
Add your personal mark to the spread- remember, this spread is your active, visual learning laboratory!

Here are some examples from Northside Art Students. LOOK CAREFULLY. Which students created careful, original pages that reflect their research on an artist, and which ones simply printed out lots of pictures? :-( Make sure to have a nice mixture of pictures, YOUR notes, comments, research etc, AND some artwork that you do in the style of your artist.
