ASSIGNMENT
1. Create a pop up book with three sections (at least…you’re welcome to do more!)
2. The book should have a front and back cover that is noticeably different from the inside pages (i.e thicker).
3. At least three pop up techniques must be used. You are encouraged to take risks and push yourself!
4. The artwork, construction, pop ups, and story are expected to have excellent craftsmanship.
5. The book should center around (clean) song lyrics, a nursery rhyme or fairy tale or an original story that you write.
GRADING RUBRIC
Excellent: The book is exquisitely crafted, with a great deal of attention to detail and neatness. Pages are glued together seamlessly and the pop ups work automatically without needing “help”. The artwork is outstanding and the story flows very smoothly. It is evident that a minimum of 10 hours was spent on the book. Risk-taking and hard work are evident. The creativity and originality is outstanding. Time in class was used to the fullest without any wasted time or excessive talking or being distracted. The book does not lack any of the required elements.
Very Good: The book is well-crafted, with a good amount of attention to detail but some room for improvement. The pop ups work well. The artwork is very good and the story is mostly smooth flowing, with some risks/attempt at risk-taking and mostly hard work. It is evident that at least 8-9 hours were spent on the book. The creativity and originality is very good. Time in class was mostly used to the fullest with a little wasted time, talking or distractions. The book lacks one of the required elements.
Good/Fair: The book is crafted in the most basic way, with a fair amount of attention to detail but lots of room for improvement. The pop ups work with some hesitation or misfiring. The artwork is good with room for improvement and additional details, and the story is mostly smooth flowing. It is evident that at least 6-7 hours were spent on the book and that more time and effort would have contributed to more creativity and detail. Time in class was not really used to the fullest with wasted time, talking or distractions. The book lacks two of the required elements.
Poor: It is obvious that the book was made at the last minute. The book is not crafted well, and there is lots of room for improvement. The pop ups are very basic with no attempt at originality and little creativity or they do not work at all. It appears that less than 5 hours was spent on the project. The storyline and the artwork is weak with much room for improvement. The book lacks three or more of the required elements.
Failing: The book is in bad condition or lacking the required elements or was not turned in.
